Lake Tuscaloosa Renovation-Mid Construction Post - Frusterio Design

It is tough for me to post pictures of a home that is still under construction (the wow factor of a staged, completed space is much more fun). That being said, even mid-construction pictures don’t do this renovation justice! Also, how else would I fill my blog quota?!
Our firm was contacted a few years ago to design a major interior/exterior redesign of this Tuscaloosa AL residence. The homeowners envisioned an Italian/Mediterranean remake of their existing Traditional.

The original gable over the covered entry was replaced with a hip. Smaller columns and an arched entry soften the proportions and give a more inviting feel. A knee wall was added to the staircase bay to the right of the front door. This allowed for taller arch-top windows and blends with the entry as the focal point as you approach the home. An Owner’s Study wind was added to the left of the home with a covered sitting porch with columns matching the entry. A barrel-tile roof, 8″ copper gutters and small hip-roof dormers were added to keep with the new Mediterranean aesthetic of the home.

The entire home was reworked, but for the sake of time (and pictures), here are a couple of highlights.

The existing cabinets were removed and new custom cabinets with a large center island were added, maximizing the flow and efficiency of the space. A raised ceiling tray with custom cedar beams was added.

Most of the existing exterior brick was smeared with stucco. Arches and tongue-and-groove ceilings were added to covered walkways and porches.

The remainder of the project is scheduled to be completed in the next few months, so be sure to check back for updates! Thanks so much for reading! As always, we would love to know what you think! Have a wonderful day!
