So, I’m sitting at home, preventatively (sure, it’s a word) prepared for the incoming snow storm that is arriving soon. For those not familiar with the area, Birmingham AL is a bit of a stranger to typical winter weather. When we do get significant ice and snow, and by significant I mean about .5″-1″, it completely shuts down everything. We received a major snow storm a couple of weeks ago that wreaked havoc on the state, and now everyone is a little on edge for this one. With all of this frigidness going on, I thought it would be the perfect time to show off a warm Summer retreat.
We began designing this home in July of 2007. We used the Blake plan as a jumping off point and modified it to meet the wants/needs of the client. Double french doors lead you into the house from a covered stone and cedar beam entry porch. It is an open concept floor plan, with the kitchen, dining and great room in one space, but defined by varied ceiling heights and a large entertaining island that acts as the “hub” of the home. Through a private foyer, you enter the master suite, with a large french door unit that look out to the lake. The master bath has two separate vanity areas, a private water closet, large shower and soaking tub. Double doors lead into the large closet, divided into “his” and “hers” areas. The opposite end of the house features a guest suite, laundry, and a guest bath with both interior and exterior access. A diamond shaped covered porch, with retractable screens and an outdoor fireplace, connects the vaulted covered porch on the rear of the home to the breezeway to the detached garage.
Now off to play in the snow! Thanks for reading!
